It is viva voce interpreting, in which the speaker utters short sentences that are then translated by the interpreter.

Interpreters: Usually only one interpreter is needed, whose experience and knowledge are determined by the type of assignment.

Equipment: Specific equipment is not usually required, although some kind of loudspeaker system may be necessary on occasions.

Advantages: It is the most ‘human’ form of interpreting, although slower and less agile than simultaneous. As the interpreter stands close to the speakers, it allows communication that is rich in nuances, finer points and accuracy.

Disadvantages: The communication is more broken up and slower than in simultaneous interpreting.
