You don&#8217;t want everyone to hear you shuffling papers while someone else is speaking.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Use headphones<\/span> to prevent sound feedback. Make sure you are using the right audio inputs and outputs by accessing your device or platform settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Video signal quality<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A minimum Internet connection of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">20-30 MB upload and download<\/span>, stable and jitter-free, is required. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Don&#8217;t use your mobile phone camera<\/span>, particularly your selfie camera.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is recommended that your face fills the screen and is well lit (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">avoid backlighting<\/span>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you are going to share a presentation on screen, do a test run beforehand to familiarise yourself with changing slides and ensure that it looks right.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make sure that the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">organisers have a copy of the presentation<\/span> in case there are any problems.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">not<\/span> send a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">pre-recorded talk<\/span> unless it is professionally recorded. If you send it, please also provide any presentations (PowerPoint, Keynote, etc.) included in the recording for the interpreters to study.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Bad connection<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If you notice that your <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">connection is failing<\/span>&nbsp; or you are told by the organisation that <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">your image or voice is choppy<\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">turn THE CAMERA OFF<\/span> so that you can at least be heard more clearly.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you were screen sharing, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">ask the organisers to project your presentation<\/span>, telling them when to switch slides.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">It is better not to be seen but to be heard than to be neither seen nor heard<\/span>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Quality of interpreting<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Remember that there are people who <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">do not listen to you, but to the interpreters<\/span>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide your <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">presentation or any other material in advance<\/span> to the organisation so that it can be forwarded to the interpreters. It does not matter that it is not the final version (although you will have to provide it on the day of the presentation) but interpreters need to know the subject matter and check specific vocabulary and acronyms.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you are going to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">read a text out loud<\/span>, the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">interpreters need a copy<\/span>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you are going to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">recite quotes from memory<\/span>, please <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">forward a list<\/span> so the interpeters can look them up and render a suitable translation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">interpreters<\/span> merely translate what you say, they <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">do not translate the texts you see on the screen<\/span>.
