The speaker finishes what he/she wishes to say, and the interpreter then repeats it in another language.
This service is ideal for very formal situations, but is tending to fall into disuse. The speaker gives his/her speech while the interpreter takes notes using a system of symbols similar to shorthand. When the speaker finishes talking, the interpreter repeats the words in the other language.
Advantages: Just one interpreter, specialised in consecutive interpreting.
Equipos: Specific equipment is not required, although loudspeaker equipment may be required in certain cases.
Disadvantages: It makes communication slower and can lead to people listening getting impatient.
